Théorie des couleurs
The topics covered in this learning activity (LO) focus on the theoretical foundations of color and its perception, as well as on color management systems in the context of digital image reproduction and transmission.

The course is structured around four main sections:

  • Light and Color: study of the nature of light, its propagation, spectrum, the functioning of the human eye, and the principles of additive and subtractive color synthesis.
  • Color Systems: exploration of spectral curves and the main color spaces used in digital imaging (RGB, HSL, Lab), as well as the CIE chromaticity diagram.
  • Color Theory: introduction to color contrasts, associated visual effects, and the basics of color psychology.
  • Color Management: concepts of gamma and gamut, principles of monitor calibration and profiling, and the use of color profiles.
All theoretical concepts are illustrated with visual examples and reinforced through short exercises designed to consolidate understanding.
Technique de reproduction et de transmission des images
The topics covered in this learning activity (LO) aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of formats, media, and constraints related to the reproduction and distribution of images in various contexts (printing, screens, interactive media). The course enables students to better grasp the technical aspects of images based on their uses and the media involved.

The course is structured around the following three areas:

Image:

  • Types of digital images (bitmap, vector) and common formats (JPEG, PNG, SVG, etc.)
  • Transparency management (alpha channel, cut-out backgrounds, compatible formats)
  • Image file size calculation (resolution, dimensions, color depth)
  • Image resizing: interpolation methods, aliasing effects, and quality loss
Printing:

  • Understanding the CMYK color model
  • Overview of different printing systems and processes (laser, inkjet, offset, etc.)
  • Specificities of printed reproduction (screening, registration, margins, etc.)
Image Media:

  • Static images: photographs, digital illustrations, still visuals
  • Dynamic images: videos, animations, broadcast formats
  • Embedded images: immersive or interactive contexts (augmented reality, virtual reality, XR, video mapping, etc.)
All theoretical concepts are illustrated with visual examples and reinforced through short exercises designed to solidify understanding.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
Communicate and inform:

  • Choose and use appropriate means of information and communication
  • Use appropriate technical vocabulary
Collaborate in the design, improvement and development of technical projects:

  • Analyze a given situation from technical and scientific perspectives
Comply with regulations:

  • Comply with standards, procedures, and codes of good practice
Master IT tools:

  • Efficiently use computer environments and operating systems specific to digital graphics
  • Produce and process images
